Spritzgeback cookies courtesy of Pumpkin Pie and Me {est. 2014}
This recipe is for Spritzgeback cookies.  This was my Oma’s recipe, which she gave to me almost 18 years ago.  It took me many years to be able to get this recipe right, as she “left a few instructions out”, as she normally did with recipes.  But these cookies are something that my older sister and I would make with my Oma when were little girls.  They are only ever made a Christmas, as it just wouldn’t feel right to make them any other time of year, at least for me.

Unrivaled Chocolate Caramel Treats! courtesy of snapshotsincursive
What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Food Junkie Favorites: Unrivaled Chocolate Caramel Treats! Do you get weak in the knees over chocolate? You may be tempted once you taste this salty sweet confection. One little piece will have you rolling your eyes in delirium. The crust keeps this bar crunchy, kinda like a shortbread cookie. And the sea salt crystals form a balance that is unrivaled! This recipe has a few shortcuts, so it can be thrown together in a matter of minutes. No baking is required. Don’t hate me!trh-unrivaled-chocolate-caramel-treats
Jumbo Vegan Ginger Molasses Cookies courtesy of sewloveable
This recipe was inspired by my mother. She shared a story from her childhood with me about her and her older sister. They would each get 10 cents as allowance money from their parents. She said that from time to time they would get 25 cents and when they did they would feel like the riches, girls in the world.
They would take their allowance money and head to the local country store and treat themselves to Ginger and Molasses cookies which were 2 for 1 cent, a soda, and peanuts. Walk down the road and sit on the steps outside the church they attended and enjoy their treats all to themselves. I love the way my mom lit up as she told me that sweet little story.
So, I decided to try and replicate one of her favorite childhood special treats with my own little twist!
Homemade Chocolate Tart with a Chocolate Graham Cracker Crust courtesy of sewloveable
You’re going to Love this recipe. This recipe is really special to me, it’s my grandmother’s. She was such a wonderful cook and baker. I am delighted and honored to have all her recipe’s passed down to me.  A few day’s ago I finally decided to start trying some of them out. When I saw her recipe for a Chocolate Pie…. I knew I had to make this recipe first. So, I took her recipe and put the Sewloveable spin on it and decided to make a Chocolate Tart with a Chocolate Graham Cracker Crust. Can I just say, this is the most decadent dessert I’ve made to date and mmm mmm good…lol.trh-homemade-chocolate-tart-with-a-chocolate-graham-cracker-crust
Creamy Cherry Pineapple Gelatin Pie courtesy of
My mother has been making this gelatin salad as long as I can remember.  When I was younger, it was a staple at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and often served as a side to the meal, instead of dessert.  Every time I taste it, it is like taking a bite out of childhood.  I always look forward to eating it this time of year.  I am not a huge fan of gelatin salads, but I adore this.  My mom was kind enough to allow me to share her special recipe with all of my wonderful readers.  It is a beautiful and festive side dish or dessert for the holidays.  It is packed full of pineapple, maraschino cherries, and walnuts.  It has a wonderful combination of flavors and textures.
But Hannah Did Not Have Potatoes! Latkes with a Tropical Twist courtesy of koolkosherkitchen
Chanukkah is coming, and kids are looking forward to stuffing their faces with latkes – potato pancakes. When I was growing up, we had all kinds of latkes on Chanukkah, and sometimes my grandmother skipped the deruny(potato latkes) altogether because of the variety of other, more interesting ones: carrots with apples, zucchini with raisins, and my father’s favorite rechene (buckwheat) latkes. When a guest inquired about the missing “traditional” kind, she would say, “But Hannah did not have potatoes.” Two burning questions of my childhood were: who was Hannah and why, oh why, couldn’t she get potatoes?
