INTERVIEW WITH “AN HISTORIAN ABOUT TOWN”
INTERVIEW WITH “AN HISTORIAN ABOUT TOWN”
All about your BLOG:
Tell us about your lovely BLOG.
- What is the name of your blog and how did you decide on your name?
An Historian About Town- I wanted something that encompassed my education and love of history (because it is such a big part of who I am) and my love of travel, culture, and everything refined! - What prompted you to start on this blogging journey?
I couldn’t find many blogs from women early in their career who didn’t veer off into being wedding/children focused! - To date, what blogging achievement/s are you most proud of?
That is a tough one- I would have to say being able to work with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, which I have loved and adored since I was a small child. - How would you describe your own blogging style?
Lifestyle blogging with a focus on helping readers in a few key areas- refinement, relaxation, health, and career! - What excites you most about blogging?
The community, without a doubt! I have met so many wonderful, lovely, worthwhile people through blogging. - What platform do you use and why?
Wordpress.com – I can customize my site in whichever manner I choose (I have the Premium plan) but I don’t have to worry about maintaining my site or paying someone to do it, through the .org version! - What genre/topic/theme do you blog about? Do you ever deviate from that theme?
I have some staple topics- style, reading, recipes, travel, etiquette. I do have “free” posts where I can post about anything! I’ve also started posting more about blogging itself- not to actually instruct people on what I think they should do but to explain and provide my own experiences. - How often do you blog per week or month?
Mondays- Make It Monday or free day
Wednesdays- Snapshot of what’s happening
Fridays- Style File Friday
Saturdays- Weekend with a Westie
Sundays- Free days - Do you have any wisdom or tip/s regarding blogging to share with us?
Don’t set out to be the most profitable, full-time, professional blogger in the world- those blogs all tend to run together and really seem a dime a dozen. Grow naturally and enjoy the ride! Also, maintain a consistent schedule. There is nothing more frustrating than finding a blogger that you love and then discovering that they only blog sporadically. - Do you participate in linkup parties? How do you feel about it?
I’ve never hosted one- because of themes I prefer, I have the newest posts on top, and I have a new post daily aside from Tuesday and Thursday, and I wouldn’t want it to get pushed to the bottom. I think they are a lovely idea though, and as I’m currently looking for a new theme, if I can pin posts to the top in the theme I choose, I may try to do one!
INTERVIEW WITH “AN HISTORIAN ABOUT TOWN”
All about YOU:
Tell us something about you, the real YOU.
- What do you like to do other than blogging?
My puppy, Agnes, keeps me busy! I also dance (mostly ballet), read a lot, and am an active alumna member of my sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta! - Where do you reside?
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada- If you fold the map of Canada in half, that’s Winnipeg - Are you an indoor or outdoor person?
Indoors in the summer, outdoors in the winter- embrace the snow and enjoy not being overheated - Do you still work, and if so, what is your trade/profession?
I work at a university, in administration. - Or are you retired? If so, what do you do besides blogging?
N/A - Do you wish to be 20-something or the age you are now and why?
I am still barely a 20-something, and I would much rather be in my old age to enjoy the things I love at a slower pace. - What makes your day a good and happy one?
Puppy cuddles, a good cuppa tea, and fresh air! - Describe yourself in 3 words.
Focused, polished, planner. - Share with us 3 interesting facts about yourself.
1) I did my Master of Arts in Early Irish History and was lucky enough to live in Dublin for a year.
2) I wear sunglasses over my regular glasses so that I don’t have to worry about losing/dropping prescription sunglasses.
3) I run an Instagram account for my dog, @agnesthelittlewestie, and I am learning dogs = immediately popular on Instagram haha! - Do you have any other tidbits to share with us about yourself?
I‘m hoping to move in the next 2-4 years, and am checking out different options! If you have moved internationally, please let me know!
