This Malva Pudding is more delicious than the sum of its parts! It’s a real traditional oldie and a firm favorite so do try it out!
Malva Pudding
Malva pudding is a sweet pudding of South African origin. It contains apricot jam and has a spongy caramelized texture. A cream sauce is often poured over it while it is hot, and it is usually served hot with custard and/or ice cream. Many South African restaurants offer it.
Pudding Ingredients
- 1½ cup flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1tsp bicarb
- 2 eggs
- 2 Tbs butter
- 3 Tbs apricot jam
- ½ cup milk
Sauce Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh cream
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar

Method Batter
- Preheat oven to 180C
- Beat eggs, butter, apricot jam, and milk together.
- Add the dry ingredients.
- Bake for 25 minutes.
- Switch off the oven.
- Serve with a hot drop custard.
Method Sauce
- Bring to a boil and set aside
- Once the batter/pudding is done, pour the boiling sauce over it and leave it to rest in the switched-off oven for a few minutes.
