Delicious and sweet Potato Koeksisters for a snack with tea or coffee

  • 6 cups cake flour
  • 1 packet of instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon mixed spice
  • 2 tablespoon fine stick cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoon aniseed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 190ml sugar


  1. Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl
  2. Boil 6 medium potatoes until the soft, mash
  3. Keep the potato water and add more water to make up 750ml

Add to mashed potato
190ml sugar
1 egg
125ml butter
Mash until it is lump-free and smooth
Add to the dry mixture and add water little by little until you have a soft dough.
Let it sit for an hour.
Break off pieces of dough and roll them into a ball
Allow to rise for 30 mins and then deep fry your koeksisters
Dip in syrup and sprinkle with coconut


  1. 4 cups sugar
  2. 3 cups water
  3. Stick cinnamon
  4. Blob of butter
  5. Cook until a syrup is formed
