Description
This shortbread is all about real butter, no margarine allowed. It’s simple, buttery, and melts in your mouth.

- 500g real butter, softened
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1 tsp salt (only if your butter is unsalted)
- 4 cups flour
Instructions
- Heat your oven to 320°F.
- Mix butter and icing sugar (plus salt if needed) until smooth.
- Add flour one cup at a time and mix well. The dough will be stiff.
- Press the dough into a lined baking pan, flatten it, and poke holes with a fork (a fun job for kids!).
- Bake for 45 minutes or until the edges turn light brown.
- Cut the shortbread right away, then let it cool fully before moving it.
- You can dip the pieces in chocolate if you want, but plain is perfect too.
- The flavor gets better after a day or two. It stores well for at least three weeks.
This recipe is great for making big batches. It keeps well and makes a thoughtful homemade gift, just pack it in pretty tins and share.
