Description
This easy red velvet mug cake is soft, fluffy, and ready in just minutes. A perfect single-serve dessert for late-night cravings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp white vinegar (important for that tangy red velvet flavor)
- 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil (or canola)
- 5 drops red food coloring, optional but pretty
- powdered sugar, whipped cream, or ice cream for topping (optional)
Instructions
- In a large microwave-safe mug, whisk the milk and vinegar. Let it sit for 1–2 minutes (that’s your quick buttermilk).
- In a small bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the dry mix to the mug with the milk. Pour in oil and food coloring. Whisk until smooth.
- Microwave on high for 1 minute 10 seconds. If the center looks undercooked, cook for another 10–15 seconds. Timing depends on your microwave wattage.
- The cake will puff up and then sink a little; that’s normal.
- Dust with powdered sugar or add whipped cream, then dig in while it’s warm.
