Description

These fluffy no fuss bread rolls are the kind you make once and then keep coming back to. They’re simple, forgiving, and honestly smell amazing while baking.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 7 g x 3 sachets instant dry yeast
  • 25 ml sugar
  • 25 ml oil
  • 5 ml salt
  • 250 ml + 50 ml warm water
  • Milk for brushing
  • Sesame or poppy seeds for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, add the 500 g all-purpose flour, 3 x 7 g packets of instant dry yeast, 25 ml sugar, and 5 ml salt. Give it a quick mix with a spoon.
  2. In a separate jug, combine the 250 ml warm water (aim for just warm to the touch, not steaming), 50 ml warm water, and 25 ml oil.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until it comes together. It might look a bit shaggy, that’s fine.
  4. Knead the dough for about 8 to 10 minutes or until it’s soft and slightly tacky but not sticking all over your hands. If it’s too sticky, add a little flour, a spoon at a time.
  5. Shape into a ball, place it back in the bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rest in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 hour. If your kitchen is cool, it might take a bit longer.
  6. Once risen, gently punch down the dough and divide into 8 to 10 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a ball or shape, however you like, and place on a lined baking tray. Leave a bit of space between them.
  8. Let the rolls rest for 15 minutes while your oven preheats to 400⁰F (200⁰C).
  9. Brush the tops lightly with milk and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if using.
  10. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until lightly browned on top and sounding hollow when tapped underneath.
  11. Let them cool slightly before serving, or honestly just tear one open while warm.
