Description

Golden Bread Pudding is a timeless recipe that always feels right. From holidays to everyday meals, it’s the dessert that never fails.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 6 slices whole wheat bread
  • 2-3 tbsp butter, softened to spread the bread
  • 100 g dried cranberries (or raisins, if you prefer)
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 tbsp sugar (plus a little extra for topping)
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (plus extra for topping)
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Grease a medium (8×8-inch) ovenproof dish.
  2. Butter the bread slices, cut them into quarters, and arrange in the dish, butter side up.
  3. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and scatter cranberries evenly.
  5. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes so the bread soaks up the custard sauce.
  6. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and the custard has set.
  7. Sprinkle with extra sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Serve warm with custard or ice cream.
  9. Leftovers taste great cold or gently reheated.
