Description
Sweet and Sour Pork or Chicken with noodles and veggies is the ultimate homemade comfort food. Crispy fried meat, fresh stir-fried vegetables, and a tangy sauce make this dish better than takeout.

For the meat:
- 500g Pork neck steak or chicken fillets, trimmed and cut into thin strips
- 2 cups corn flour (Maizena)
- Lemon, black pepper, garlic salt, garlic flakes, paprika (to season flour)
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten with a splash of milk
- Canola oil, for frying
Sweet and Sour Sauce:
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 4 tbsp tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup of lemon juice
- 1 1/2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 4 tbsp sweet chili sauce
- 2 tsp garlic and ginger paste
For the noodles & stir-fry:
- 1/2 packet Chinese egg noodles, cooked and drained
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 tsp garlic and chili paste
- 1 green chili, chopped
- 1 green pepper, sliced
- 1 yellow pepper, sliced
- 1 punnet mushrooms, chopped
- 2 tsp fish sauce
- 2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1/2 bunch spinach, chopped
- 1 punnet of bean sprouts
- Extra sesame oil and sesame seeds (for finishing)
- Fresh coriander or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Season corn flour with spices.
- Coat meat in flour, dip in egg mixture, and fry in hot oil until golden.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Preheat oven to 180Β°C (350Β°F).
- Mix sugar, tomato sauce, lemon juice, soy sauce, sweet chili, and garlic-ginger paste.
- Place meat in an oven dish, pour sauce over, bake 20 minutes, stirring halfway.
- In a wok, heat sesame oil.
- Stir fry onion, garlic-chili paste, and chopped chili for 1 minute.
- Add peppers and mushrooms, cook another minute.
- Stir in fish sauce, soy sauce, spinach, and bean sprouts. Cook until spinach wilts.
- Add cooked noodles, toss well. Add baked meat with sauce, heat through.
- Taste and adjust seasoning.
- Drizzle with sesame oil, sprinkle sesame seeds, and garnish with coriander or parsley.
- Serve hot.
