Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 2 cups whole wheat bread flour
- 1 cup cake flour
- 1/2 cup ground flaxseed (grind whole seeds in a coffee grinder or spice grinder)
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet (8g) instant quick-rise yeast
- 500 ml lukewarm water
Instructions
- Mix all the dry ingredients together in a big bowl.
- Pour in the lukewarm water and stir everything until it’s well combined.
- Let the dough rest until it doubles in size, about 1 hour or so.
- Once it’s risen, press it down gently with a wooden spoon.
- Put the dough into your bread pans and let it rise again until puffy.
- Brush the top with water. You can sprinkle coarse salt on top if you like; if you do, use less salt inside the dough (around ½ teaspoon). If you skip the coarse salt, try sprinkling some extra flax seeds on top instead.
- Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 50 to 60 minutes. It’s done when a toothpick or skewer comes out clean.
Try it fresh out of the oven, warm, hearty, and packed with flaxseed goodness. Perfect for sandwiches or toast!
