Description
Easy oven-roasted hake is ready in 20 minutes. Perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 whole baby hake, cleaned and butterflied
- 1-2 tsp fish or meat spice rub (use more if you like it bold)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 tsp red chili flakes (or more if you like heat)
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 3 limes, sliced into thin rounds
- 2-3 tsp olive oil (or enough to drizzle lightly)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 190°C / 375°F.
- Rub the hake inside and out with the spice rub, garlic, parsley, chili flakes, and paprika.
- Lay lime slices over the fish and drizzle with olive oil.
- Place fish on a baking tray and bake in the middle of the oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the fish turns opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
- Serve warm with a fresh green salad and a side of potato salad.
Notes
- This recipe used a Joostenberg Farms rub packed with mustard seeds, peppercorns, garlic salt, bay leaves, thyme, oregano, pimento, chili flakes, and Cajun spice. If you can’t find it, just mix a little paprika, garlic powder, dried thyme, and chili flakes for an easy substitute.
- If your fish are on the larger side, you may need to cook them closer to 20–22 minutes.
