- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 5 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 egg, beaten into enough milk to make 1 cup total liquid
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 380°F (190°C) and line 2 baking sheets with parchment.
- In a big bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Melt the butter and mix it into the dry ingredients until crumbly.
- Add the egg-and-milk mixture and stir until just combined. Don’t overmix.
- Roll the dough about 2½ inches thick and shape into a round.
- Cut into 8 wedges and place on the baking sheets.
- Bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
Tip: These taste amazing warm with butter, jam, or cream. Add extras like raisins, blueberries, or even cheddar before baking for a twist.
