Description

This recipe is a family favorite, passed down through generations. It’s moist, flavorful, and full of banana goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine (1 stick)
  • 3 very ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

  1. Beat sugar, salt, and butter together until creamy.
  2. Mix in the eggs and mashed bananas.
  3. In another bowl, sift the flour and baking soda together.
  4. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped nuts.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan.
  7. Bake at 325°F (165°C) for about 1 hour. Check with a toothpick around the 1-hour mark — if it comes out clean, it’s ready.
  8. Don’t let it overbake!
  9. For extra yum, drizzle powdered sugar frosting on top while the bread is still warm, or simply spread some butter. Both ways are delicious, but the frosting adds a special touch.

This banana bread has been loved since 1958, when my grandmother found the recipe in a newspaper. It’s truly one of the best you’ll ever taste. Give it a try!
