Description
This recipe is a family favorite, passed down through generations. It’s moist, flavorful, and full of banana goodness.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine (1 stick)
- 3 very ripe bananas, mashed
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Instructions
- Beat sugar, salt, and butter together until creamy.
- Mix in the eggs and mashed bananas.
- In another bowl, sift the flour and baking soda together.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped nuts.
- Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan.
- Bake at 325°F (165°C) for about 1 hour. Check with a toothpick around the 1-hour mark — if it comes out clean, it’s ready.
- Don’t let it overbake!
- For extra yum, drizzle powdered sugar frosting on top while the bread is still warm, or simply spread some butter. Both ways are delicious, but the frosting adds a special touch.
This banana bread has been loved since 1958, when my grandmother found the recipe in a newspaper. It’s truly one of the best you’ll ever taste. Give it a try!
