Description

Make this easy pepper steak pie with homemade pastry, tender beef, and rich savory flavor. Perfect for cozy dinners

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 250 g flour
  • 200 g cold butter
  • a pinch
  • Steak
  • Celery
  • Carrot
  • Onion
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Beef stock powder
  • Water
  • Maggi Sweet Caramel

Instructions

  1. Mix 250 g flour, 200 g cold butter, and a pinch of salt in a food processor.
  2. Add just enough cold water to form a dough that pulls away from the bowl.
  3. If it’s too sticky, add more flour.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth, then wrap it in cling film and chill until ready to use.

Savory Beef and Veggie Filling with a Hint of Sweet Caramel

  1. Dice steak into small pieces.
  2. Chop celery, carrot, and onion finely.
  3. Cook the meat and veggies together with salt, pepper, and beef stock powder. Let it simmer.
  4. Add water mixed with food caramel (like Maggi brand) for extra color and richness.
  5. Cook until the meat is tender enough to break apart easily.
  6. Thicken the mixture with a flour-water paste and a little more food caramel.
  7. Let the filling cool completely before using.

Assembling and Baking the Pepper Steak Pie

  1. Spray your pie dish and press the pastry into it.
  2. Let it rest to avoid shrinking.
  3. Fill with the cooled meat mixture.
  4. Add a slice of tomato and sprinkle with black pepper on top.
  5. Cover with puff pastry, seal the edges with water, and trim the excess dough.
  6. Cut a small slit on top for steam to escape.
  7. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle more pepper.
  8. Bake at 200Β°C for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.

Optional: Add Cheese and Tomato Inside for Extra Flavor

For a richer pie, add cheese and a tomato slice inside the filling before sealing the top pastry.
