Description

Spaghetti with meatballs baked in cheesy tomato sauce is the ultimate family meal. Every bite feels warm and homemade.


Ingredients

Meatballs:

  • 500 g ground beef or pork
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil, for frying

Sauce:

  • 2 cans chopped & peeled tomatoes
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose cream
  • Olive oil, for sautéing
  • Extra salt & pepper

Serving:

  • 1 packet spaghetti, cooked al dente
  • More grated cheddar cheese
  • Fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a big bowl, mix ground meat, diced onion, carrots, green pepper, eggs, flour, cheese, salt, and pepper.
  2. Roll a spoonful of meat into balls with your hands.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large pan.
  4. Brown the meatballs in batches until golden (they don’t need to be fully cooked).
  5. Transfer to a baking dish.
  6. In the same pan, add a little more oil.
  7. Sauté the onion until soft.
  8. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, peppers, and carrots. Simmer 10 minutes.
  9. Add cream, season with salt and pepper.
  10. Pour the sauce over the meatballs in the baking dish.
  11. Bake at 180°C/350°F for 15–20 minutes.
  12. Ladle meatballs and sauce over spaghetti.
  13. Sprinkle with extra cheese and fresh basil.
