Ingredients
Meatballs:
- 500 g ground beef or pork
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 medium carrots, diced
- 1 green pepper, chopped
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- Olive oil, for frying
Sauce:
- 2 cans chopped & peeled tomatoes
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 cup all-purpose cream
- Olive oil, for sautéing
- Extra salt & pepper
Serving:
Instructions
- In a big bowl, mix ground meat, diced onion, carrots, green pepper, eggs, flour, cheese, salt, and pepper.
- Roll a spoonful of meat into balls with your hands.
- Heat olive oil in a large pan.
- Brown the meatballs in batches until golden (they don’t need to be fully cooked).
- Transfer to a baking dish.
- In the same pan, add a little more oil.
- Sauté the onion until soft.
- Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, peppers, and carrots. Simmer 10 minutes.
- Add cream, season with salt and pepper.
- Pour the sauce over the meatballs in the baking dish.
- Bake at 180°C/350°F for 15–20 minutes.
- Ladle meatballs and sauce over spaghetti.
- Sprinkle with extra cheese and fresh basil.
