Ingredients

Units Scale
  • ±1.1kg boneless cubed beef stew meat
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (or if you have fresh, 1 tablespoon leaves)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 chopped onion
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 2 medium sliced carrots **
  • 12 teaspoons corn starch / Maiziena. You can even use Bisto if you prefer.
  • 1 cup of raw rice

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, add the first 9 ingredients
  2. Cook for 1-1½ hours on medium heat
  3. About 15-20 minutes before done, add the carrots **
  4. About 5 minutes before serving mix the cornstarch with some warm liquid and whisk, ensuring no lumps are visible.
  5. Add to the pot and cook through, just to thicken it up a bit.
  6. Serve with rice.
  7. **If you did not use carrots in the stew, serve with any vegetables of your choice.
