Apple Roses, Simply Elegant and delicious

Everybody loves Apple Roses, do you?

Apple Roses

Can you freeze Apple roses?

You can make just a few roses and freeze the rest of the pastry for another time! We made a dozen roses and 10 or so buds with our pastry. *You want an apple that will hold its shape. We went apple picking recently, and the Golden Delicious were our favorites this year, so we used them.

Description

Simple to make, Very elegant to serve, and outstanding delicious to enjoy with friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 frozen puff pastry sheet, thawed
  • 2 red organic apples (I used red delicious)
  • half lemon, juice
  • 1 tablespoon of flour, to sprinkle the counter
  • 3 tablespoons of apricot preserve
  • cinnamon (optional)
  • powder sugar for decorating (optional)

Instructions

  1. Thaw the puff pastry if you have not done so yet. It should take about 20–30 minutes.
  2. Prepare a bowl with some water and lemon juice.
  3. Cut the apples in half, remove the core, and cut the apples into paper-thin slices.
  4. Leave the peel so it will give the red color to your roses.
  5. Right away, place the sliced apples in the bowl with lemon and water, so that they will not change color.
  6. Microwave the apples in the bowl for about 3 minutes to make them slightly softer.
  7. If you prefer, you can also simmer the apple slices in the water in a small pan (on the stove).
  8. Unwrap the puff pastry over a clean and lightly floured counter.
  9. Using a rolling pin stretch the dough a little, trying to keep it in a rectangular shape.
  10. Cut the dough into 6 strips. These are about 2 in x 9 in (5 cm x 22 cm).
  11. In a bowl, place three tablespoons of apricot preserves with two tablespoons of water.
  12. Microwave for about one minute, so that the preserves will be easier to spread. Spread the preserves on the dough.
  13. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  14. Drain the apples.
  15. Place the apples on the dough, as shown in my picture.
  16. Sprinkle with cinnamon (personal preference).
  17. Fold up the bottom part of the dough.
  18. Carefully roll, seal the edge, and place in a silicone muffin cup.
  19. No need to grease the muffin mold if it is silicone.
  20. Otherwise, make sure to grease it.
  21. Do the same for all 6 roses.
  22. Bake at 375 F (190 C) for about 40-45 minutes, until fully cooked.

Notes

Please be sure the pastry is fully cooked on the inside before removing the roses from the oven! If, after 30 minutes, the apples on top look fully cooked, move the pan to a lower rack in the oven, and wait for 10-15 more minutes to avoid undercooking the puff pastry.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy! I chose to add a dollop of French vanilla ice cream and some mint leaves.
