The common merganser (North American) or goosander (Eurasian) (Mergus merganser) is a large sea duck of rivers and lakes in forested areas of Europe, Asia, and North America. The common merganser eats mainly fish. It nests in holes in trees.

What a perfect photo to catch the bird in flight like that. I’m surprised its name has “common” in front because I honestly don’t see these colorful ducks too much.
Yes they are gorgeous. They are plentiful here in our area but they are beautiful and I love the fact that we can see them locally.
