Recipe from Nestle condensed milk booklet

The recipe is a real winner. It is a traditional South African tart that is very easy to prepare.  Often referred to as ‘MELKTERT’, which is Afrikaans for Milk Tart, this classic and traditional dessert has its origins stemming from Dutch settlers in Cape Town, way back in the 1600s. For the last number of years, Milk Tart has gained popularity far and wide, with even Jamie Oliver making Melktert.

Did you know that in South Africa, the 27th of February, has been declared NATIONAL MILK TART DAY

South Africans do not need a particular day to enjoy this age-old, proudly South African sweet treat. Milk Tart is present in almost any shop, be it a supermarket, Food Stall, most Market day sales, and for sure at the home industry shops. You will find that there are tons of different variations to milk tart, so this Easy and Quick No-Bake Milk Tart would be another to add to your list to try.

    • Hi Pamela, Thank you for trying out this recipe. Looking at the ingredients and the picture provided, my guess would be that it should fit in a standard pie pan which is 9 inches in diameter and 1-1/4 inches deep. Please note that I have not prepared this specific one myself, but received it from Feriel, a member of one of my FB groups.

You can also use a bigger size, it may not be as high, but still awesome. I truly hope this will help. Once you made it, I will truly appreciate your time to leave us a rating and review on this recipe. Enjoy this awesome No bake Milk tart.

      • Thank you very much for your input.. but I like to cut the tart into squares… so wondered what size rectangular dish/ container.

        • Hi Pamela. Sorry that I misread your original question. I guess that anything like a deep 9 inch will work. When you prepared the crust a have it ready you should be able to see from that the size of the dish to use. As long as its deep to keep all the filling it should work. If its a bit on the big side the crust will be thinner and the filling will not be at high but it will still be perfect. It’s rather difficult to give exact size so you have to try out what you have available. I am sure that you will be able to work it on it once you made the crust and filling as that will help you decide. Please let us know what you used then I can update and add your comment and experience here.
