Feeder Wars Hummingbirds

Feeder Wars Hummingbirds Guarding Their Feeder

Wordless Wednesday – Allow your photo(s) to tell the story

Just a few words before you continue. I don’t usually include videos, but this one is special. Take a moment to watch this clip, filmed by my husband and shared here with his permission.

It starts quietly, with the soft whir of wings you almost miss if you’re not paying attention. Then suddenly, a flash of color darts across the garden like a tiny bolt of lightning, chasing off anything that dares hover too close. Hummingbirds may look delicate, but they’re fierce little guardians, staking claim to flower patches and feeders because their nonstop metabolism means missing a meal is not an option, especially during breeding season or long migrations.

Most of their skirmishes are with other hummingbirds, high-speed chases, and dramatic midair standoffs that feel way bigger than the birds themselves. Now and then, though, a particularly bold one might buzz past a human head who wandered a little too close. It’s not personal, just survival instinct wrapped in feathers and attitude.

    1. Hi there Pat, thanks for checking out the video.
They were at it for at least 10 minutes, non-stop. I think they eventually run out of steam (energy) as none of them had time to drink (refuel).

  1. Beautiful. We have six large feeders on our patio and will all that food they still fight. Love watching the hummingbirds.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Hugs, my friend. ♥

    1. Thanks for visiting friend. Thanks for popping in here. Yes, we have this one in front of our study and our daughter also have one up on her back porch. We think the fight occurred because the back porch one was empty, and then they all came to our one. Now that we filled up both no issues any more.
