Ingredients:
500 g Dates
10 ml bicarbonate of soda
500 ml boiling water
375g Butter OR Stork Bake
500 ml treacle brown sugar
10 ml Vanilla Essence
4 eggs
2 cups Cake flour
2 cups self-raising flour
10 ml Baking powder
125 ml walnuts
Method:
Place dates in a bowl and add bicarbonate of soda
Cover dates with 2 cups boiling water & allow to cool
In a separate bowl cream butter,sugar, vanilla essence & slightly beaten eggs
Add flours & baking powder to creamed mixture & blend thoroughly
Lastly add dates (with water) & nuts & mix thoroughly
Pour batter into lined, greased loaves pans & bake for one and half hours @150 C or until skewer comes out dry
