Description

Flaky, golden, and full of cheesy goodness! These herby cheese twists use puff pastry, cheddar, and parmesan to make a quick, savory snack everyone loves.


Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cubes or sheets of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup sharp grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or Aromat
  • Fresh ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg mixed with 1 teaspoon water
  • Dried basil, rosemary, or parsley, to taste

Instructions

  1. Thaw your 2 cubes or sheets of puff pastry according to the package directions.
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. If you’re using cubes, roll them into a 15” x 15” square. If you’ve got pre-rolled sheets, just unfold them and smooth out any creases.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of water, then brush it lightly over the top of the pastry.
  5. Sprinkle each sheet with ¼ cup shredded Parmesan and ½ cup grated sharp cheddar, so the cheese is evenly spread.
  6. Add a pinch of salt (or Aromat), a few cracks of black pepper, and your favorite dried herbs: basil, rosemary, or parsley. (I like mixing basil on one sheet and rosemary on the other for a little variety.)
  7. Use your rolling pin to gently press the cheese and herbs into the pastry: not too hard, just enough so they stick.
  8. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the pastry into 1-inch strips, then cut them in half crosswise.
  9. Twist each strip a few times and lay them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Pop them in the oven for 10–15 minutes until they puff and turn lightly golden.
  11. Flip each straw over, then bake for another 2–3 minutes to get both sides crisp.
  12. Let them cool slightly, or don’t, if you can’t resist that warm, cheesy smell,
  13. Enjoy!
