Mix together with a whisk.
4 cups cake flour
2 cups self raising flour
2 tbs Klim
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
10g (1 pkt) instant yeast
30ml powdered mixed spice
10ml powdered cinnamon
In a separate bowl mix together in order as per list below…
3 tbs solid butter
1 & 1/2 cup hot water
1 tbs oil
1 & 1/2 cup milk
2 tsp vanilla essence
Then beat 1 egg and add to the other liquids.
Add liquid mix to dry ingredients and mix thoroughly to form a soft smooth dough (add extra flour a little at a time if dough is too wet).
Cover dough with a little oil and leave to rise for + 1 hour in a warm place.
Once risen, roll dough into a sausage shape with approx 5cm diameter and cut into 2cm slices.
Set aside to rise again for +-15mins.
Deep fry in medium hot oil until golden brown.
Remove with tongs and drain on a paper towel / clean dish towel.
Dip in hot syrup (recipe below) which is still on a low flame on the stove.
Syrup
2 cups brown / white sugar
3 cups water
3 cinnamon sticks
5 cardamon pods
2 star anise
Place all the ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a boil on medium heat.
Stir until the syrup becomes slightly sticky.
Boil the koeksisters in it for +-1 min.
Remove & sprinkle with dessicated coconut if u like.
Best served warm.
