Curried Mince Cheese Jaffles
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
- Cook Time: 20 minutes
- Total Time: 40 minutes
- Yield: 6-8 servings depending on size
- Category: Lunch
- Method: Easy
Description
Comfort food perfection: crispy bread, melty cheese, and curried mince. What are you waiting for?
Ingredients
- 300–400g minced meat (beef, lamb, or chicken—your choice!)
- 2–3 potatoes, quartered
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon crushed ginger & garlic
- 2–3 curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- Masala or chili powder (adjust to your heat preference)
- Salt to taste
- Chopped coriander/Dhania (for garnish)
- A splash of oil
- 1 cup water (or as needed)
Instructions
- Heat a splash of oil in a pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion, ginger, and garlic, and sauté until fragrant and golden.
- Toss in the curry leaves, cumin, coriander, and masala/chili powder. Stir well and let the spices bloom for a minute or two!
- Add your minced meat, breaking it up with the back of your spoon so it cooks evenly.
- Add the potatoes, sprinkle in some salt, and pour in just enough water to help it cook.
- Cover and simmer on medium heat until the potatoes are fork-tender and the mince is juicy and flavorful.
- Finish with a sprinkle of fresh coriander. Your curried mince is ready!
- Scoop a generous portion of curried mince onto a slice of bread.
- Top it with shredded cheese, mozzarella, cheddar, or whatever you enjoy and have on hand.
- Place another slice of bread on top and toast it in a jaffle maker, or if you do not have one, you can use a panini press, or even a frying pan until golden brown and crispy.
The result? A crunchy, cheesy, handheld meal with a rich, spiced filling that’ll keep you coming back for more.
Bonus Tips:
Don’t overthink it! If the mince clumps or the potatoes take a little longer to cook, it’s all part of the process. Your jaffles will still taste fantastic.
Pair it up: Balance the spice with a side of fresh salad or a cooling yogurt dip.
Get creative: Leftover curried mince? Use it as a topping for baked potatoes or stir it into cooked pasta for another quick meal.
This recipe brings bold flavors with minimal fuss. So, what are you waiting for? Give it a go and enjoy the deliciousness of homemade curried mince and cheese jaffles!

Hi Jennifer. It’s a delicious treat and I must admit that I have not seen in other than in SA. Not 100% if other areas/counties also have it. Maybe something similar but not the round shape as per this recipe. You do find the jaffle makers on the internet
Are you freakin’ kidding me? These look amazing!! I’m making these this week. Thanks for the recipe. We’re featuring you at the Homestead Blog Hop this Wednesday.
Hello Kelly. WOW, thank you so much for your kind words and also for the honor of the feature. I will check in Wednesday evening at the blog hop as I will be on the road most of Wednesday. Thanks again and hope you will give it a try and let me know how you like it.
Wow! Saying goodbye to my keto diet! How do you make the edges stick together so they don’t open while cooking?
Once in a while you can indulge and have a treat. It will stay together when you use this pan (see the link) as it clamp and seal the edges.
I’ve not thought of curried ones. We get Kim chi toasties here so why not? #SeniorSalonPitstop
These are awesome, hope you will give it a shot and enjoy it
This is so cool! I love interesting kitchen gadgets, and I had to read this post just to see you got the perfect circular pattern. How have I never heard of a Jaffle maker?
