Description

Home-Made Donuts may seem a little intimidating, but I assure you, when you try this recipe, they are really not difficult!

What are the 2 types of donuts?

The two most common types are the ring doughnut and the filled doughnut, which is injected with fruit preserves, cream, custard, or other sweet fillings.

Instructions

  1. Boil together until the sugar has dissolved and the syrup is a bit thick
  2. Remove from stove
  3. Allow cooling
  4. Beat eggs in a large bowl, till its frothy
  5. Add, sour milk, butter, and sugar
  6. Beat well
  7. Sift in flour and baking powder
  8. Add salt, bicarbonate of soda, and nutmeg
  9. Make into a nice soft dough
  10. Break into 3 pieces
  11. Roll out into 1cm thickness
  12. Fry in hot oil on medium heat
  13. Until its a nice golden-brown colour
  14. Remove from oil, set aside
  15. Then dip in the cold syrup
  16. Roll in coconut
  17. Enjoy

The earliest origins of modern doughnuts are generally traced back to the olykoek (“oil(y) cake”) Dutch settlers brought with them to early New York (or New Amsterdam). These doughnuts closely resembled later ones but did not yet have their current ring shape.

  1. These look mouth watering delicious! We made donuts recently but we cheated and used pre-made biscuit dough. But we will definitely have to try these.
