Wedding soup or Italian wedding soup is an Italian soup consisting of green vegetables and meat. It is popular in the United States, where it is a staple in many Italian restaurants

Yield: 4-6 servings depending on size

Italian Wedding Soup

Make this Italian Wedding Soup with homemade meatballs, colorful vegetables, and spinach, and orzo pasta that will be loved by the whole family.

Meatballs Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes


  • 500g Ground Meat
  • ½ Cup (125 ml) Breadcrumbs
  • ½ Cup (125 ml) Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 Egg (beaten)
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 1 Tsp. (5 ml) Dried Oregano
  • 1 Tsp. (5 ml) Dried Parsley
  • 2-3 Tbsp. (25-37.5 ml) Olive Oil


  • 1 Large Onion (diced)
  • 2 Stalks Celery (diced)
  • 2 Large Carrots (diced)
  • 4-5 Cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 Bag Baby Spinach
  • 1 liter of Vegetable Stock
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 1 Cup (250 ml) Orzo (uncooked)
  • 1 Bunch Dill (chopped)
  • Extra Parmesan (garnish)


  1. Combine all the meatball ingredients together and shape.
  2. Heat olive oil and brown meatballs.
  3. Set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add the onion, carrots, and celery and cook till soft.
  5. Add in garlic, salt, pepper, and dill.
  6. Cook for about 5 minutes.
  7. Pour in the stock and bring to a boil.
  8. Add in the pasta and meatballs and cook till pasta is tender and meatballs are fully cooked.
  9. Stir in the spinach and turn off the heat.
  10. Garnish with parmesan and enjoy!!
  11. Usually made with a mix of beef & pork but you could use your choice of ground meat.
