Description

Naartjie Mandarin Jam has a unique, brilliantly fresh flavor that works exceptionally well with all kinds of toast, croissants, scones, and biscuits.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 600 g peel, finely sliced
  • 200ml juice and pulp of the fruit
  • 300 g sugar
  • Star anise, 4
  • Clove 4
  • Pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Allow fruit, peel, and sugar to stand overnight.
  2. Place the pot on the stove on the lowest setting and allow the sugar to liquefy.
  3. Stir well and turn up the heat to a medium setting.
  4. Bring to a boil and then allow to simmer until about half the liquid has evaporated.
  5. Turn off the heat and decant into sterilized jars.
  6. I like to add a cap full of brandy to the surface of the jam before sealing. This acts as a disinfectant and preservative.
  7. Allow cooling and label.
  8. Enjoy with toast and cottage cheese.

  1. What a good idea, I never tried making jam with mandarins; I never even knew it’ s possible. Definitely on my shopping list when the mandarin season comes back 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for dropping in and hope that you will be able to give this a try when in season. Enjoy

Mandarin jam sounds delicious. I’d not thought of pairing it with cottage cheese and toast though but that does sound yummy. #WotW

  3. I don’t think I have the patience but I’ve always wanted to make jam. This sounds delicious, I’m not sure if it would taste like jam or marmalade though?

    1. Hi Anne. I truly hope you give this a try. If you do not try you will never know. I have made tons of jam years ago but now that we’re only two in the house do not make any as its a waste or us. The kids loved it when I made jam. Do try and let me know what you think. ENJOY

    1. Hi Gail. It’s so delicious and I love Mandarin or as we call it in SA (although I am now in Canada) Naartjie. Super delicious for sure.
