Prawn Curry:
Background:
Prawn curry is a dish that is enjoyed in various forms across many coastal regions worldwide. The use of prawns (large shrimp) in curry preparations can be traced back to the coastal areas of India, where seafood is abundant. Different regions and communities have their unique ways of preparing prawn curry, incorporating local spices, herbs, and cooking techniques.
History:
- Indian Cuisine: In India, prawn curry is a common delicacy in coastal regions, especially in states like Kerala, Goa, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu. The curry is typically made with a base of coconut milk or tomato, and a blend of spices such as turmeric, cumin, coriander, and red chili powder.
- Southeast Asian Cuisine: Prawn curry is also popular in Southeast Asian cuisines, with variations in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and other countries. Each region adds its twist with local ingredients and flavors.
- African Cuisine: In parts of Africa, particularly along the coastline, prawn curry is enjoyed with a variety of local spices and ingredients. The influence of Indian and Portuguese cuisines, brought by historical trade and colonization, can also be seen in African prawn curry recipes.
Butter Rotis:
Background:
Roti is a traditional unleavened flatbread that has been a staple in many South Asian cuisines for centuries. Butter roti, a variation of roti, is made by incorporating butter into the dough or brushing it on the cooked flatbread. It adds richness and flavor to the otherwise simple flatbread.
History:
- Indian Subcontinent: Roti has been a fundamental part of the diet in the Indian subcontinent for thousands of years. It is a versatile bread that can be made with various grains, including wheat, millet, and others. Butter roti is a more modern variation that became popular as access to dairy products increased.
- Global Influence: The idea of incorporating butter into bread is not unique to South Asia. In Western cultures, buttered bread is a common accompaniment to meals. The fusion of traditional roti with the addition of butter reflects the blending of culinary traditions in a globalized world.

The combination of prawn curry and butter rotis may be a result of culinary, food fusion, where different flavors and techniques from diverse cuisines come together to create a unique and delicious meal.
