A treat that can only be found in South Africa. This delicious cheeseburger pie will be one the whole family will enjoy and love. It’s made with lean ground beef, cheese, and a ready-made puff pastry crust.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 500g Minced Lamb
  • 1 Large Onion (grated)
  • 1 Tablespoon Paprika
  • 1 Tablespoon Garlic (minced)
  • 1 Tablespoon Ginger (grated)
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Thyme (chopped)
  • 23 Fresh Red Chillies (diced)
  • 23 Jalapeños (diced)
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Chilli Flakes (optional)
  • 1 Tablespoon Hot Sauce (optional)
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • Sliced Pickles
  • Sliced Red Onion/ Grilled Onion
  • Cheese
  • Sauce (your choice)

Instructions

  1. Add all the spices, onion, and breadcrumbs to the meat and mix thoroughly.
  2. Divide into 5 x 100g balls, shape into patties.
  3. Refrigerate for about an hour.
  4. Puff Pastry is store-bought.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry onto a floured surface.
  6. Cut in half (2 long rectangular pieces).
  7. Spread one side with sauce, lay on the cheese, (uncooked) lamb patty, condiments, and garnishes on.
  8. Cover with the piece of puff pastry and press with the sides of your hands to form a circular shape.
  9. Seal the edges with water then place them on a baking sheet.
  10. Brush with milk or a beaten egg and bake at 180C / 350F for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Enjoy!!
