A Sweet Blend: Crafting Tennis Biscuit Peppermint Tart
The Beginnings of Tennis Biscuit Peppermint Tart
Originating from South Africa, this dessert merged the crumbling delight of tennis biscuits with peppermint chocolate’s distinct zing. Families and friends would often enjoy it during gatherings, marking it as a favorite treat. With time, its recipe adapted, embracing caramel treat and fresh cream, showcasing its adaptability and lasting popularity.
Essential Ingredients and Creative Substitutions
To craft this beloved no-bake dessert, start with two packets of Tennis biscuits, a staple in South African cuisine’s sweet treats. If these elude you, substituting with Graham crackers will do the trick. For the luscious layers, a cup of fresh cream is essential; those opting out of dairy can use coconut cream as a rich alternative. The recipe’s sweetness stems from a can of caramel treat, with dulce de leche as an interchangeable option. A peppermint chocolate bar brings in the final touch of sweet mintiness. Should this be unavailable, blend dark chocolate with peppermint extract for a similar effect. This guide ensures the cherished Tennis Biscuit Peppermint Tart remains within reach, even when adapting it to various dietary needs or preferences.
Crafting the Perfect Tennis Biscuit Peppermint Tart
Initiate the process by neatly arranging Tennis biscuits at the base of your chosen dish. Whip one cup of fresh cream and blend it with caramel treat, introducing grated peppermint chocolate for that minty twist if desired. This cream and caramel concoction is then spread lavishly over the biscuits. Persist in layering until three levels are achieved, with the creamy mixture crowning the top. Embellish with a scatter of grated chocolate, giving it that irresistible chocolate garnish. This no-bake dessert must then retreat to the refrigerator. Here, it will spend one to two hours merging its flavors. Emerging chilled, this layered tart captivates as the quintessential dessert for entertaining, quick to assemble yet profoundly delightful.
Celebrating Your Culinary Triumph
You have successfully created a delightful Tennis Biscuit Peppermint Tart. This no-bake delight marries the sweetness of caramel treat, and fresh cream with the crispness of tennis biscuits. Finished with a sprinkle of grated chocolate, it’s a sweet and minty masterpiece. As a testament to South African cuisine, its layers speak volumes of your dedication to crafting homemade tarts.
With the tart now chilled in the refrigerator, it’s time to gather friends and family. This dessert, ideal for entertaining, offers a blend of textures and flavors destined to be cherished. Cutting through the layers reveals a harmony between crunchy biscuits and smooth cream and caramel mixture, all enhanced by peppermint chocolate. In every bite, this biscuit-based tart reinforces the joy of sharing quick desserts that are both easy and impressive.

This sounds yummy and reminds me of a no bake dessert I used to make with graham crackers.
Yes you can use graham crackers here as well as Tennis biscuits may not be available in your area. I have made it with lots of different cookies when I am unable to get to a SA shop here in Canada.
I love the peppermint-chocolate combination. This sounds delicious! Visiting from Gma’s Photo Generic linkup.
Hi Jennifer, Thanks for dropping in from Gma’s Photo Generic linkup. Hope you will try it out! If you do not get the ingredients listed, its easy to use substitutes and it will still be awesome.
I came here to find out what a Tennis biscuit is…but I still have to google! Ha! Isn’t it funny how we have all these variations on things – beloved in one, a mystery in the other. I keep finding out things are only Australian which I assumed were world over creations….
Hi Lydia, yes it’s a very SA biscuit, but it depends where you are. In the UK, readers have suggested Nice biscuits and McVitie’s Coconut Rings; and elsewhere, Voortman Coconut Cookies (US), Wibisco Shirley Coconut Cookies (Caribbean but also available in the UK), or Verkade Nizza coconut cookies (Netherlands).
I have not heard of tennis biscuit. I have heard of graham crackers! 🙂 This sounds interesting. To be honest, Ihave not heard of Nestle Aero Peppermint Chocolate Bars either. I had to click on the click to see what it is. Pinned for future reference!
Hi Debra, Both very SA treats. You can make your own tennis biscuits or substitute it with Graham crackers, although it will then not have the coconut taste of tennis biscuits, but a good sub. As for the Nestle Aero Peppermint Chocolate Bars, you can use any chocolate with mint.
I’ve never tried this, but it sounds wonderful. I bet it is full of flavor and I am always up for trying out new recipes. Thank you for sharing at The Crazy Little Lovebirds link party #55.
Hi Steph. Hope you will try it out as it’s super delicious and a very SA treat. Enjoy it
Wow, I have never heard of this, but I bet it must be delicious and worth of trying out.
It’s most definitely worth trying Mariama. Very delicious and ‘addictive’ to the last crumb. Enjoy.
