Description
These fluffy no fuss bread rolls are the kind you make once and then keep coming back to. They’re simple, forgiving, and honestly smell amazing while baking.
Ingredients
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 7 g x 3 sachets instant dry yeast
- 25 ml sugar
- 25 ml oil
- 5 ml salt
- 250 ml + 50 ml warm water
- Milk for brushing
- Sesame or poppy seeds for topping
Instructions
- In a large bowl, add the 500 g all-purpose flour, 3 x 7 g packets of instant dry yeast, 25 ml sugar, and 5 ml salt. Give it a quick mix with a spoon.
- In a separate jug, combine the 250 ml warm water (aim for just warm to the touch, not steaming), 50 ml warm water, and 25 ml oil.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until it comes together. It might look a bit shaggy, that’s fine.
- Knead the dough for about 8 to 10 minutes or until it’s soft and slightly tacky but not sticking all over your hands. If it’s too sticky, add a little flour, a spoon at a time.
- Shape into a ball, place it back in the bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rest in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 hour. If your kitchen is cool, it might take a bit longer.
- Once risen, gently punch down the dough and divide into 8 to 10 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a ball or shape, however you like, and place on a lined baking tray. Leave a bit of space between them.
- Let the rolls rest for 15 minutes while your oven preheats to 400⁰F (200⁰C).
- Brush the tops lightly with milk and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if using.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until lightly browned on top and sounding hollow when tapped underneath.
- Let them cool slightly before serving, or honestly just tear one open while warm.
