Spice up your food repertoire with this Mustard Peppered Beef

Ingredients & Preparation

For this Mustard Peppered Beef meal, you will need a

  • 2kg beef fillet
  • Season with 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp cracked black peppercorns
  • ½ tsp rosemary
  • 1 tsp lemon pepper
  • 1 tbsp grainy mustard

Preheat oven to 200°C/400°F. Coat beef in seasoning, smear mustard on top, and roast until the desired doneness.

Seasoning The Beef

Start by creating a dry rub with kosher salt, cracked black peppercorns, rosemary, and lemon pepper. This combination elevates the beef’s natural flavor while adding depth and zest. Roll the beef fillet in the mixture until evenly coated, ensuring each spice melds together to infuse the meat with a rich, aromatic crust.

Roasting to Perfection

Roast the beef in a preheated oven at 200°C/400°F, allowing for precise cooking control. Timing depends on preference: 40 minutes for a pinkish center. Incorporate potato wedges around the beef, ensuring they cook evenly alongside. Regular checks prevent overcooking, achieving the desired doneness. This method ensures both beef and potatoes are flawlessly roasted.

The Perfect Side: Potato Wedges

Cut large potatoes into wedges, then microwave them with Vegeta for 10 minutes. After draining and drying, coat lightly with cornflour, shaking off any excess. Arrange the wedges around the beef, sprinkling with paprika for added flavor. For optimal results, roast them with the beef at 200°C/400°F, ensuring their edges crisp up while the beef cooks to perfection.

Serving Suggestions

For a memorable meal, present Mustard Peppered Beef with a side of roasted vegetables or a crisp green salad. Enhance the dish with garnishes like fresh herbs or a sprinkle of flaky sea salt. You might also pair it with creamy mashed potatoes or a warm loaf of crusty bread. Invite diners to customize their plates with additional mustards or sauces to meet their unique tastes.

A Delicious Ending

In crafting Mustard Peppered Beef, the journey begins with selecting a top-quality beef fillet, then embarking on a flavor exploration with a unique blend of spices including kosher salt, cracked black peppercorns, rosemary, and lemon pepper. The magic touch of grainy mustard adds a tangy depth, creating a dish that stands out. Roasting it to your preference alongside seasoned potato wedges enhances the dining experience. This recipe not only promises a delightful meal but also invites you to delve into the world of gourmet beef cooking with ease. 1. Hi, Esme. this sounds tempting. Where is grainy mustard located in the grocery store. My husband does most of the cooking. He is more in tune with spices. I typically stick with real bland (Crohn’s). But this sounds delicious. I have pinned for easy retrieval!

    • Hi Debra, Thanks so much for popping in and pinning. I think you should be able to find it with all the other bottled mustard, although I admit, I have not bought some lately to give you a definitive answer. Maybe best to ask a shop assistant. Hope you will enjoy it.
