Come over and get cozy with a slice of mushroom cottage pie, a true comfort food classic.

Shepherd’s pie, cottage pie, or in its French version Hachis Parmentier is a savory dish of cooked minced meat topped with mashed potato and baked. The meat used may be either previously cooked or freshly minced. The usual meats are beef or lamb

What is the difference between a Shepherd’s Pie and a Cottage Pie?

Let’s start with a fairly well-known one: there is a difference between “cottage pie” and “shepherd’s pie”, and it’s in the meat. Shepherd’s pie should only be named as such if it contains lamb, and “cottage” usually applies to one made with beef.

  1. Yum!! I had initially thought it was vegetarian (when you chop the mushroom so tiny like mince)…but nothing like mushooms for extra flavour for the carnivores! #DSeniorSalonPitstop

  2. I love shepherds— I mean cottage pie. All this time I thought I was making shapherds pie and it’s been cottage pie all along. So, I’ve got to tell you first, thanks so much for the clarification. This sounds great Esme’ and that filling, yum. Pinned 📌.

Yes I think you’re not the only one that mixed up the name, but we all know what you mean when you say shepherds or cottage pie. Hope you will enjoy this filling and thanks so much for popping in on this post as well.
