I made the easiest, quickest, and super delicious side dish to any meal you can ask for – Cheesy Hash Brown Waffles with Eggs. Do try it and let me know what you think of it

What is Hash Browns

Hash browns, also spelled hashed browns, are a popular American breakfast dish, consisting of finely chopped potatoes that have been fried until browned. Hash browns first started appearing on breakfast menus in New York City in the 1890s. Hash browns are a staple breakfast food at diners in North America, where they are often fried on a large common cooktop or grill.

What’s the meaning of hash brown?

It is boiled potatoes that have been diced or shredded, mixed with chopped onions and shortening, and fried usually until they form a browned cake.

I tried my hand at making quick, easy, tasty Cheesy Hash Brown Waffles with Eggs with sour cream and chives (my own way) as a side dish to our evening meal. We only had Cheesy Hash Brown Waffles with Eggs with pan-fried steak. We loved it and I will for sure make it again.

  • Author: EsmeSalon.com
  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Cook Time: 15 minutes
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 3 depending on size 1x
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • ±200 g Hash Browns (I used cubed, as I could not find shredded)
  • 3 XL-eggs
  • ±1/4 cup milk
  • ±1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • 4 chopped chives (minus 1 chopped chive for garnishing)
  • You can add salt and pepper accordingly to taste, but I omitted it.
  • **Sour cream for serving and one of the chopped chives for garnishing.

Instructions

  1. Heat your waffle iron.
  2. Spray your waffle iron on both sides generously with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to
soak the cubed potatoes, especially if it’s frozen.
  4. ** Keep the extra chopped chive (1 chive) and sour cream aside.
  5. Scoop out approximately 1 cup of ‘batter’ and spread it out on the heated
waffle iron, close the lid, and let it cook until no steam escapes from the
    sides.
  6. Do not try to open it too soon as it will stick and tear the waffle apart.
  7. Depending on the size of your waffle iron and the thickness of the batter it
can take up to 5 minutes to cook through but please do check that it does not
    burn.
  8. The waffles should be nicely golden brown in color. Now carefully remove it
from the waffle iron with a fork and lifter.
  9. I made three (3 cups of batter) from this mixture.
  10. Serve while warm and add some sour cream and garnish with chopped chives.
  11. We enjoyed this tremendously together with some pan-fried steak.
  12. An absolute winner evening meal.

Notes

** Note: I can only provide estimates, as I did not measure it precisely, but it should not matter if you have a little more or less than stated. Should you try this, please let me know how it turned out and if you enjoyed it!
